NESSI GOMES AUSTRALIAN TOUR : AUGUST - SEPTEMBER, 2018
Sonic Heart had the honor of presenting Nessi Gomes,
Britain's Best Unsigned Female Artist 2016, for her first Australian tour. Nessi is a composer and lyricist of rare invention and beauty. Born on the tiny Island of Guernsey, Gomes channels influences from both sides of her ethnicity, blending the essence of the traditional, emotional and 'larger than life' Fado folk music with British progressive modern inspiration. Nessi wowed audiences all around the country with 11 full house concerts and 2 festival performances at Splendor in the Grass, Global Village. She also held 6 inspiring vocal workshops around the country. We also hosted/produced Nessi's incredibly moving Adelaide Concert on Friday, August 24th with Special Guest, Loren Kate at Church of the Trinity and an amazing full day Vocal Odyssey Workshop at Sophia on Saturday, August 25th. TAHIR QAWWAL & PARTY - DECEMBER 2, 2017
Renowned Sufi musician Tahir Qawwal and party returned to Adelaide after a sell out show with Sonic Heart in January.
It was another divine evening immersed in the ecstatic rhythm and passionate poetry of the Sufi 'Qawwali' Music culture of Pakistan and India. Some of the songs shared date back to the 13th century, with the music building up to a frenzy in the second set and much dancing. A wonderful evening with a full house at the Church of Trinity for our Sufi Soul concert in collaboration with GLOBO Musica Adelaide World Music.
A special concert of mesmerizing Sufi inspired music, song and dance with artists from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Europe.
Amazing soaring vocals, earthy rhythms, complimenting strings and drones with a passion for this ancient and timeless music, presented with energy and an Australian sensibility. The music was driven by tablas and percussion, smoothed with drones from the harmonium & tampura, embellished with sweet strings from bouzouki & santoor.

SHAI SHRIKI - MAY 26 & 28, 2017
Shai Shriki (Israel) : Byron based Vocalist, Oud & Guitar player composer and writer of contemporary music with traditional sounds from the Middle East, Hebrew songs and Spanish guitar launched his new album, 'Strings Attached' at Church of Trinity with Willow Stahlut on Violin and Baran Yildiz on Percussion and The Hang 26.5.17. Locals Andy Mack and Marty from Sundar opened the concert with a set of beautiful songs from around the world
Shai showcased the songs and instrumentals of his new album and played some of his new unreleased music accompanied by bass and soft drums. Shai’s original moving melodies with excellent stage presence and musicianship took the audience on a musical journey through time with ancient Hebrew songs, the Oud and Spanish guitar in fusion contemporary sounds. Two intimate heart felt events with Lulu & Mischka, two souls devoted to supporting the awakening of humanity through music and stillness. The Australia based international couple cane and shared the message to sing as one.
A powerful 'Voice Your Freedom' Workshop on the Thursday night involved the lucky participants learning eastern and western practices to work with the breath and sensations in the body to tune into the voice for empowered expression. Three Magical Events with Elijah Ray and the Band of Light blew our Adelaide Tribe away! An insightful Playshop and Incredibly powerful Sound Light Journey on Thursday, April 20th was followed up by a High Energy Concert the next night. These events were supported by Byron Spirit Festival.
An impromptu 3rd Encore event was announced at the end of the concert... word of mouth spread and two days later an eager crowd of around 100 people enjoyed an intimate performance with Elijah at the beautiful property of Askara at Willunga Hill. We were very blessed to have one of the planet's leading
Chant and Visionary Artists, Tina Malia (USA) share a wonderful Mantra, Music & Mysticism Workshop and a heart warming Concert. Tina was accompanied by Gonzalo Paniagua (Chile/Spain) on vocals, ngoni and charango and local musician and sound therapist, Michelle Byrne on vocals and percussion. James Byrne opened the concert with a stirring acknowledgement to country on didgeridoo, followed by his original songs with his self made cosmic tones and more didge. Tina's incredible voice, musicianship, warmth, story telling and sense of humour completely won the audience, who enjoyed singing along with her beautifully composed chants and original heart centred, earth honouring songs and traditional medicine music in english, spanish, sanskrit and hebrew. From sweet tender ballads to upbeat dance-along tunes and chants the audience was sincerely captivated by Tina's amazing talent. TAHIR QAWWAL & PARTY - JANUARY 14, 2017
Renowned Sufi musician Tahir Qawwal visited Adelaide for the first time on his Australian tour, after completing a wildly successful season in the USA and Canada. Tahir guided people in an engaging afternoon workshop to gain great insight into the art of Raaga, with lots of practical application.
In the evening a full house of enthusiastic concert goers immersed in the deep devotion, ecstatic rhythm and passionate poetry of the Sufi 'Qawwali' Music culture of Pakistan and India with Tahir accompanied by four talented Qawwali musicians at our favourite venue, Church of the Trinity. High Vibes on the Super Moon with Murray Kyle!
This intimate concert was a showcase of Murray's acclaimed songwriting, with old favourites and fresh surprises. Murray shared some amazing vocal harmonies and multi- instrumental loops and the crowd responded with great enthusiasm, dance and applause. Murray was also accompanied on a few songs by Sonya Mellor on cello and Michelle Byrne on Cajon/percussion. A truly memorable night. $500 from this concert was donated to the Standing Rock legal fund to support the Water Protectors who have been arrested for peacefully protesting against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Two intimate yet powerful events with Grammy-nominated producer, singer, composer, teacher and innovative modern Kirtan artist, Dave Stringer, accompanied by English singer, songwriter and social activist, Sheila Nicholls and master percussionist, Doug Brush.
Dave's Mantras & Molecules Workshop explored the neuro-chemistry of ecstasy through extensive practice of the call and response form of chanting known as Kirtan and featured discussions on the emerging brain science of how music influences and alters our perceptions, mind and spirit. The concert/kirtan was a high energy exchange between artists and performers. From divine and meaningful lyrics in Dave and Sheila's songs to magical mantras which built up to a frenzy of ecstatic chant - a really uplifting and energizing evening that was enjoyed immensly by all. An inspiring evening of an eclectic array of music from around the world in collaboration with Globo Musica. Globo is a new music and cultural program which aims to raise the profile and appreciation of world music in South Australia. You can like Globo's Facebook Page HERE With the added surprise of extra musicians playing, it was lovely to see 16 year old Shivani add some keyboard harmonies for her dad, Keith Preston on Kashmir Santoor & Zhao Liang on Guzheng (after Zhao's solo set). SHAI SHRIKI CONCERT & WORKSHOP - JUNE 17 & 18, 2016

A wonderful weekend of World Music to Inspire, with Sonic Heart supporting multi-instrumentalist Byron Bay resident and Israeli artist, Shai Shriki's return visit to Adelaide, after he captured many hearts at our last event with Peia and Murray Kyle . The Friday night concert opened with guests lighting a candle for peace and in acknowledgement of the looming winter solstice. Local Bolivian artist Themis Aranibar warmed the stage with heart-felt original and traditional songs, playing solo and then accompanied by a local base player and conga player, with the crowd on their feet dancing for the last song of the first set. Shai then serenaded the audience with his divine voice, Oud and Guitar, sharing Hebrew and English tunes before being being joined by gifted Melbourne violinst, Willow Stalhut (from The Imprints), with an exotic fusion of eastern and contemporary sounds. Shai's Saturday afternoon World Music Workshop was a hit with the participants first learning about the origins of different instruments and their place in cultures from around the world. Shai then led them to build rhythms and beats, rising and falling and taught a beautiful Hebrew song. A fun day which brough people together through music. |
PEIA , MURRAY KYLE & SHAI SHRIKI CONCERT - APRIL 29, 2016
From a beautiful acknowledement to country, from Murray Kyle paying respects to the Kuarna people with a didgeridoo to open space, to sacred songs and melodies to arabic chant, exotic instruments, conscious heart-felt lyrics, laughter, tears, bliss and a standing ovation to top it all off, this was indeed a very special night of being held by these gifted artists for a full house of appreciative souls at the Church of the Trinity.
Shai Shriki charmed us with his smooth voice and masterful playing of the oud and the guitar. His heartfelt lyrics, and playful antics were a delightful start to this gorgeous night. Eastern and contemporary tunes with a sing along to an arabic chant really got the crowd warmed up. Murray Kyle and special guest, Heather Frahn joined Shai on guitar and percussion respectively to close his wonderful first set.
Murray Kyle's 4th visit to Adelaide and 3rd concert in collaboration with Sonic Heart saw him endearing Adelaide fans and winning new ones during his set. This talented troubadour wowed us with inspiring heart felt lyrics acappella style and demonstrated skillful musicianship on guitar and other instruments, including a breath-taking drone flute solo, which sent shivers up spines and hearts opening. Heather Frahn stepped in for a special appearance and rocked it with some great percussion for us too accompanying Murray for a few songs, and then Peia stepped up to add some harmonies for Murray's last song, Arrow to the Sun - the title track from his 5th/most recent studio album. |

And Peia…well.. her incredible voice reached straight to the core and left us all with a deep sense of connection and expansion. Words just can not express what only the heart can feel. She truly did blow us away with her magical original and traditional songs collected, loved and polished to perfection, expressed and delivered so divinely through her crystaline voice and amazing charango and harmonium playing. Her closing prayer and blessing brought tears to many eyes and the impression that she left on everyone in the space was palpable. Thank you Peia!!! Blessed we are!

CARMELLA is a gifted singer and inspirational award winning vocalist and composer. She has studied, performed, taught and shared sacred music throughout Australasia from an early age, dedicating herself to facilitating sound as a healing force, a vehicle for transformation and vibrational healing, for creating harmony with the whole of nature and ultimately for union with the Divine. Carmella is one of Australias best known kirtan artists, having performed at events with Jai Uttal, Deva Premal and Miten, Dave Stringer, Sacred Earth, Donna De Lory, and many other kirtan artists as well as regularly facilitating kirtan for ISKON along the East Coast of Australia and running voice workshops and yoga retreats.

Local bhajan outfit Sundar rocked the house at Church of Trinity with an uplifting fusion of contemporary and ancient sounds of the spirit. Andy (guitar, vocals), Themis Fernando (flutes, charango, vocals) and Peter Holton (sitar, vocals) brought together sounds of south America and India layered upon melodic classical/folk guitar, creating a dynamic and rich sound-scape from the deep and gentle to the high and ecstatic and took us on a journey of divine mantras.
